Murderer's Bay Red

To round out our selection of still wines we have concentrated on producing a light very drinkable red wine based on merlot which is sufficiently early ripening to make it suitable for the subregion. It is blended with smaller quantities of cabernet franc and malbec to provide additional balance and complexity.

It is matured in French oak for at least 9 months . It has proven to be a very popular as a light easy drinking summer wine as well as an accompaniment to good food.

Incidentally the name Murderer's Bay was given to this region by Abel Tasman when he first made landfall here in 1742 and resulted from an unfortunate misunderstanding with the local maori with the resultant loss of some of his sailors. The name was changed to Golden Bay when gold was discovered in the Aorere valley. The maori name for the bay is Te Taitapu

A loire styled summer red wine. It is predominatly merlot with minor contributions of cabernet franc and Malbec. Shows light red fruit bouquet and palate and is pleasantly soft and fragrant. This light fresh wine is overlapping the rose style. It is food friendly and if served as an aperitif during the warmer summer months would benefit from light chilling.
